Your Go-To Guide for Assembling Your Idaho Wedding Details Box

What is a Wedding Detail Box?

Your Idaho wedding day is a mosaic of moments, big and small, that come together to create a beautiful tapestry of memories. The detail box is like a treasure chest, holding all the precious items you want to cherish forever. It ensures every intricate detail of your special day is captured and these photos are the perfect way to tie a wedding gallery together, especially after investing so much time and money into curating these details. As your photographer, having these items ready when I arrive allows me to dive straight into documenting your day, capturing the essence of your love story from the very beginning.

What Should You Put in It?

For the Bride:

  1. Her Wedding Dress: The centerpiece of the day deserves its moment in the spotlight and I can’t wait to see your gown! Please make sure it is steamed and set aside before I arrive.

  2. Bridesmaids Dresses: There is no need to include all of your dresses unless you want a photo of all of the dresses together. Oftentimes, I’ll photograph detail flat lays on a bridesmaid’s dress to incorporate your wedding colors. Ideally, I would love it if you could have one or two of your dresses available for me when I arrive.

  3. A Dress Hanger: Trust me when I say it makes the BIGGEST difference to have your dress hanging on something pretty! The plastic hangers/cardboard form that dresses often arrive to you are practical, but they don’t photograph the best. Your “pretty hanger” could be as simple as a wooden hanger or as ornate as a custom hanger, personalized with your future last name.

  4. Her Shoes: A bride’s wedding day shoes are one of my favorite things to photograph. If you are wearing more than one pair of shoes on your wedding day, please include the shoes that you would like photographed.

  5. Her Jewelry and Rings: Include all 3 of your rings, the engagement band, the wedding band, and the groom’s band. I recommend storing them in a small jewelry box to ensure their safety.

  6. Headpieces or Veils: If you are wearing a veil or are incorporating a hairpiece into your wedding day look, be sure to set it aside. If your hairstylist needs it before I arrive, no worries, I can always photograph it after it is in your hair. (It just won’t be included in your detail photos.)

  7. Bouquet: Bouquets are THE perfect way to tie all of your detail images together with the rest of your day. Please remember to have your bouquet delivered to your bridal suite before my arrival.

  8. Perfume: I love when brides have a signature scent for their wedding day. Even the simplest of bottles make a great addition during details.

  9. Family Heirlooms: This is one of the sweetest ways to pay tribute to the generations that came before you. Whether you are wearing a piece of your grandmother’s jewelry or a ring that belongs to your mother, I think it should be photographed. Be sure to include it in your box of details.

  10. Something Borrowed, Something Blue: Are you including anything old, new, borrowed, or blue on your wedding day? If so, please include the items in your detail box!

  11. Wedding Stationery: You’ll want to include two copies of all your stationery with envelopes, inserts, RSVPs, basically anything you sent to a guest. Please make sure envelopes are unused/unsealed and that you are comfortable with the addresses on the envelope being photographed.

For the Groom:

  1. His Shoes: I recommend having the groom keep his shoes off until after my arrival. Shoes are one of the most common grooms’ details that I photograph and incorporating that into getting ready moments works to elevate your gallery.

  2. Pocket Square/Tie/Bowtie: A groom’s tie says so much about him and your wedding day. No need to worry about tying the tie, I’ll capture it as it is, untied or unclipped.

  3. Belt: I view this as an optional item. If you’ve selected a belt with an embossed pattern or special belt buckle, please include this. That is a special detail I will for sure what to document.

  4. Socks (If Patterned): If your guy is wearing, what I like to call “personality socks,” let him know that he should wait to put these on. More often than not, I’ve found that the groom is excited about them and I love adding this special detail to getting ready moments.

  5. Cologne: I’ve found that many grooms choose a special wedding day cologne. I recommend you invest in a glass bottle or roller as those photograph best.

  6. Cufflinks: If your groom is wearing cufflinks, be sure to remind him to lay them out. I love when grooms have custom cufflinks that say something about their personality or wedding day.

  7. Watch: If your groom has a sentimental watch that he will be wearing on your wedding day, I’ll want to photograph it. I really love when grooms decide to incorporate family heirloom watches.

  8. Boutonniere: Just like with bride’s bouquet, I love a boutonniere. The fresh florals add a sense of life to getting ready details and I love getting ready details of the boutonniere being put on.

  9. Family Heirlooms: I know many grooms include heirloom accessories that they have been given or have borrowed. Oftentimes, these include handkerchiefs, wristwatches, pocket watches, cufflinks, ties, etc. Make sure to include these in your box as well.

Your detail box isn't just a collection of items; it's a portal to the memories you'll treasure for a lifetime. By curating these elements thoughtfully, you're not just preserving details but encapsulating the essence of your love story. So, let's capture every laugh, every tear, and every joyous moment, ensuring that your wedding day lives on through the magic of photography.
