What’s In My Camera Bag // Idaho Wedding Photographer

Curious about the gear I use to shoot weddings? Today, friend, I’m happy to pull back the curtain and share a little bit about the gear I love and have built over the last few years.

First the bags! I wouldn’t survive without my Peak Design Everyday Bag. It holds everything you see here plus it has a pouch to hold your computer if you need to bring that along as well. I also appreciate that the bag works well for travel and comes with straps to attach a tripod. I love having a hip belt to wear to hold additional lenses, filters, and other things I’ve brought to create with.

A few years ago, I decided to upgrade my camera bodies and go mirrorless. I had tried out a few different brands and models and ultimately decided I like the feel and usage of the Canon brand. I invested in a Canon R5 and Canon R6. I love how many megapixels the R5 has which allows me to crop photos very closely and still retain print quality.

When it comes to lenses, I prefer fixed focal lengths. I’ve found that I naturally end up moving my body even with a zoom lens though I do still love experimenting with all types of lenses. In my kit, you’ll find:

I own two different types of camera straps. For wedding days, I love the C Coiro Dual Strap Harness. It is super comfortable and distributes the camera load across my upper body. When I’m not using my Coiro, the Peak Design Slide is my go-to. The clip system makes it super easy to take it on and off if I want to quickly detach my camera for a shot and I love how light it is.

Of course for wedding day, I carry extra Canon batteries and extra SD cards. I prefer Sandisk 128GB Extreme Pro UHS-II for the quick read/write capability ensuring I can take photos as rapidly as I desire. I recently got this SD Card Holder and it’s been great to keep me organized. I always bring a Canon battery charger with me just in case I use up all my power.

Last but not least, I have my more creative gear. I own two different flashes, a Neewer Speedlite and a Sunpak Speedlite. I prefer the Sunpak system, it has a faster flash recharge and I love the display on the back.

For filters, I can’t go without my Variable ND Filter. I love this for creating silhouettes and motion blur images during the brightest part of the day. You’ll also see me with a selection of prisms and reflective items like copper pipe and even my phone screen. You never know what new item I’ve found to experiment with.

I hope this blog gave you some insight as to what I love to shoot with and inspiration on what to add to your gear for your next wedding day.
